It goes without any doubt that our school, Sinlui, is a very historic place. Our school building has been standing strong since 7th of July 1862. From what is one building, our school has grown to six glorious buildings and an amazing community. Many stories written on the walls, the corridors, the rooms, and the lawns of Sinlui. And now, I will take you through the TOP 5 Most Historic Places in St. Louis.
- Building A
The A building is not called A because it is located in the front of our school, but it is called A because it has stood the longest in our school grounds. If you ever wondered why our A building has never been revamped is because they cannot revamp it. Why? Because our A building is actually a heritage. A building is filled with histories drawn way back, ever since it’s inception.
- Front Garden
The front garden holds one of the most important historical value of our school. Why? Because on the very ground of our front garden, the Indonesian flag is first waved in Surabaya. There’s even a stone that commemorates it. That’s the true beauty of our front garden.
I know most of you are probably wondering why is the chapel, recently added in 2006, is in the most historic list. When I started the most historic list, I did not mean the oldest places in Sinlui. The St. Mary Miraculous Medal Chapel holds a very historical value. It is built upon the donations of Sinlui’s alumni and their families. And the names are carved on the front wall of our chapel.
- Thomas Aquino Library
No, the masquinli is not added just because it stores loads of history books, but because it stores some (and by some I meant a lot) of the oldest books in the school. Not only old books, but it also stores pictures of sinlui’s alumni dating back to the 80s.
- Main Stairway
The main stairway is also one of the most historic places in our school. Why you ask? Because it symbolizes St. Louis. Mention any class that has never taken a picture at the main stairway during their 3 years of study in Sinlui. None right? The main stairway hold many history of students going in and out of the school.
